How Much to Add Tracking to First-Class Mail?

In the world of mailing, tracking is a great way to provide assurances to customers and ensure their packages make it to their destination. This is especially true for larger and heavier parcels, which can sometimes take longer to reach their destination or have other delivery issues. For this reason, it’s important for businesses to offer a variety of shipping options that include tracking.

Fortunately, the USPS has a few ways to add tracking to your mail items and the process is relatively easy. You can get full tracking visibility for retail and commercial packages with First Class Package Service, and for letters and flats you can choose from several other options including informed delivery and signature confirmation with restricted delivery.

If you’re sending a package or envelope to someone that you want to be sure it arrives, consider using the Collect on Delivery (COD) service. With COD, the receiver pays postage and the order amount when they receive the package. To use this service, you’ll need to include a return address and pay the proper postage and order amount on your package. You can drop your COD item in a mailbox, street letterbox, or rural mailbox, or bring it to the post office.

As far as the cost of adding tracking to your First-Class packages and envelopes, it’s actually a little bit more affordable than you might think. In fact, you can add tracking to most types of First-Class Large Envelope and Flat mail for just a few extra dollars. To do this, simply create a label in ShippingEasy and select Thick Envelope or Large Flat from the services list, then set Confirmation to Delivery.
